Ok, trying to put together my first bike....owned several, never upgraded parts before.
Currently my rear brake is a rim style, I want to change that to disc. There are various sizes and styles that I have found, what do I need to look at, measure, or whatever to figure out what hub will work on my wheel and what brake will mount to my bike? My bike does have the mounts for the rear disc, guessing it doesn't have the correct hub. My front brakes are disc, but wouldn't mind upgrading to something a little stronger. What do I need to check up front to get the right parts?
Derailleurs...long, medium, short cage? Bike is a 24 speed, I would really like to change out everything from the gears, chain, shifters, and derailleurs...but most likely derailleurs first as that is my problem spot. So, what do I need to look at before I order them? I'm sure my rear is a long cage, but I **** the sloppy shifts...sloppy on the front as well. What would be a decent, cheaper, set of derailleurs and shifters if needed as a set?
While we are on the topic of gears...are there any specifics I need to know to order front and rear gears?
Rear shock, anything at all to know about it? Or are the basically universal minus travel length?
Finally, forks...What am I getting into here?
Now, with all this said...the brakes, derailleurs, shifters, and possibly gears are what I want to do ASAP. So, the forks and rear suspension would ideally be ordered as compatible with the first set of upgrades.
Thanks for all the help!

I live in an area where there alot of hills and I find it hard to get up hills. I would like to adjust my saddle and handlebars for maximum power with minimal strain on my body and particularly my back.
